A little birdie told me that the SSD was not going to have snow days this year if we are to go back to school. I feel this to be outrageous. The snow day has become an American school tradition. It’s one of the most exciting parts of waking up in the morning during winter. I would look out the window of my room to see if it was snowing and then run downstairs to see if school had been delayed/canceled.
Now firstly, I speak on the behalf of a lot of people. Nobody really wants to go to school. We are children, and children have a lot of energy. So sitting in a chair at home or at school is the exact opposite of expressing energy. We also would rather do anything than go to school. We’d rather listen to music, play 15-year-old WII games, go play in the snow, then shovel the snow, and even just sleep.
Secondly, we don’t want to learn either. As I listed previously, there are so many other things we could be doing. No one wants to do school work at all, especially at home. When we get the day off, we want to sleep in, not go to a zoom class or google meet. We’d rather exercise and do anything other than learn.
Lastly, sitting at a desk all day is BOOOOORING. Whether at home or at school, no one wants to spend 40% of their day at a desk doing something they do not enjoy. It would also mean less time to go and build a snowman or have a snowball fight. We get less time to sleep in and get rest. No one ever wants to spend a majority of their day doing something they don’t enjoy.
And that is why, personally, I disagree with the removal of snow days. It’s one of the few things I look forward to during winter. So, in conclusion, I say yay to snow days.
