Boys’ Basketball Successful Season
WINC writers Brian Fried and Cam Cole recently sat down to interview Mrs. Mangan, our seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball coach. When asked about her favorite memory from the season, Mrs. Mangan said, “being back on the court with fans being able to cheer us on. Our student section was outstanding!! The support we got from our school community was amazing. There was so much excitement throughout the school on game days. It definitely gave us a boost and made the opposing team uncomfortable. It was tough last year playing in an empty gym.” Coach Mangan also said that it is always hard to see the eighth graders go. She said that the team becomes a family, and she has been able to see her players grow. She does look forward to watching the players play in high school.
Coach Mangan believes that the team has overcome a lot of obstacles during the past two seasons such as Covid, a crammed schedule, and losing our gym only to beat the odds with a great season. She stated that she has seen the team grow individually and as a whole group. Coach Mangan also added that she really liked the teams’ music choices on the bus rides to away games.
Coach Mangan said her favorite part of this basketball season was watching hard work pay off. In her words, “the biggest reward is seeing players have the confidence to go up against hard teams.”
When asked how next year’s team looks, Coach Mangan feels we have a solid team coming back. She said that she feels fortunate to be able to coach some great teams the past few years. She thinks the future of West Scranton basketball is looking bright. The players need to work hard during the off season to better themselves and as a team. Our boys’ basketball team proves every year that West is Best!
