The hemisphere begins to warm significantly, causing new plant growth to “spring forth”, giving the season its name. Benjamin Franklin was the first to propose daylight savings time in 1787. The first spring flowers are typically daffodils, dandelions, lilies, tulips, iris, and lilacs to name a few. Spring always begins late in March in the United States, but its actual start date changes on leap years. Spring almost always arrives on March 20 or 21, but sometimes on the 19th. The reason the equinoxes and solstices don’t always come on the same day is that Earth doesn’t circle the sun in exactly 365 days. The first day of spring in the Southern Hemisphere is the first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Holidays during Spring include Easter, Passover, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco De Mayo, and more.
