“My dog is the best!” “No, my dog is the best!” Well… actually, China is! Meet China, my bluenose pocket pitbull. She is 8 years old, and her birthday is May 4th, 2016! She is coated with a gray base and a few white splotches around her body. She is one of the friendliest dogs you’d meet!
Starting off with her backstory. We first bought China off my uncle when she was about 7 weeks old. She was definitely the prettiest one of the litter. I was only about 6 at that time when we got her, so I was very ecstatic. When she came home with us June 22nd, my dad decided on the name China. A lot of people find it weird, questioning why we would name a puppy after a country in Asia. Though, I always loved her and her name; she’s unique!
China and I bonded very quickly. She would always follow me everywhere, and I would always follow her. I would spend hours just spending time with China. And when she was approximately 3 months old, I started training her. I was 7 when I started teaching China basic tricks such as paw, sit, and lay down. It only took China a few days to learn them, as well! As a few years went on, I began teaching her more difficult ones such as play dead and jump! I never could teach her to speak though, as China rarely barks. She is a very smart dog and she catches on really quickly. To this day, China still performs her tricks!
Not all of China’s life was perfect though. A few months into her life, we began noticing small bald patches on her skin. We may have just thought it was a reaction to it being hot…or allergies. We were very mistaken though. Later on, China’s bald patches appeared in more areas and would multiply in sizes. She would also be filled with dandruff. We took her to the vet, and they couldn’t find out what was wrong. But, they did give us medicine to try and eliminate the itchiness on her body. After numerous vet attempts, we never succeeded. China’s patches would bleed and become larger and multiply. It was horrible. Money for her was spent left and right, her diets were constantly changed, we did everything.
One night, November 4th, 2021, me and my family’s residence caught ablaze. Everyone evacuated the house, and fire spread rapidly. China made it out safely, and so did everyone else. After months of trying to find a house, we finally bought one. That’s when China’s skin condition began to alleviate. A few weeks into living in our new house, she was fully healed! Her hair grew back, she no longer had terrible dandruff, and no dry patches surrounded her body.
Even today me and my parents still don’t know what caused China’s skin condition, but we are glad it healed. China is now a happy puppy, and loves chasing her tail, sleeping, and eating her favorite treats. She is healthy and well cared for. I hope you enjoyed her story!
